Invalid EventWatching caterpillars go through their life cycle is an amazing thing for students to witness, which is why the PTO hosts a Butterfly Sale every other spring. This gives families and classrooms a chance to purchase young caterpillars so that they can watch them grow until they create their chrysalis where they remain until they're ready to emerge as butterflies.
Students can either opt to keep their caterpillars home for the duration of this process (provided they have a butterfly net to keep them in once they emerge) or bring them into the class once they've entered their chrysalis. After the last of the butterflies have come out, teachers will take the children outside where they'll release their butterflies into the wild.
This has long been a favorite activity for SES students and the community alike, since the pollinators can be seen in great numbers around the neighborhood near the school.
